Press Release: CUB of MI Statement on Governor Whitmer's Climate Executive Order

September 23, 2020

In response to Governor Whitmer's MI Healthy Climate Plan announced today, the following statement can be attributed to the Citizens Utility Board of Michigan Executive Director Amy Bandyk:

"Cutting Michigan's CO2 emissions through actions like this executive order is good news for ratepayers because it moves us toward a more efficient, more affordable grid. This plan will encourage more renewable energy and energy efficiency, which ultimately lead to less of a need for capital-intensive power plants and other projects that end up being charged to all of our monthly electric bills for decades. We don't need to choose between affordable energy and clean energy—they work together."

A new report from the Citizens Utility Board (CUB) of Michigan, the advocacy group for residential ratepayers, shows how to improve accountability for the performance of the state’s investor-owned electric utilities and, as a result, ease burdens on all ratepayers.
